India had their best outing in the Asian Games on Sunday, 1 October, winning 15 medals. Indian track and field athletes ran the show in the later half of the day, winning several medals to soar India’s tally to 50+ on Sunday.

There were several impressive performances on display by the Indian contingent on Sunday. From Tajinderpal Singh Toor defending his Asian Games crown to India pushing China to the absolute limit in the men’s badminton team final, Day 8 at the 2023 Asian Games had it all.

India clinched silver in the men’s team competition in badminton on Sunday. India were defeated narrowly by China in the men’s team event despite heroic efforts from Lakshya Sen and the doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty.

Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen clinched a bronze medal at the ongoing Asian Games 2023 after losing her semi-final bout against Thailand’s Raksat Chuthamat in the women’s 50kg category. The bout was lost via split decision.

Ajay Kumar Saroj and Jinson Johnson won silver and bronze respectively in the men’s 1500m event. Saroj clocked in at 3:38.94s while Johnson registered 3:39.74 in their event. Harmilan Bains won the silver medal in the women’s 1500m event with a timing of 4:12.74s to win her maiden Asian Games medal.

Several Indian athletes will begin their individual events. Indian archers will begin the day in several events, while track and field athletes will be competing parallelly.

Later in the day, the Indian women’s table tennis doubles team will be playing their semi-final match. Focus will also be on the Indian mixed relay 4x400m team who have several talked about stars in their line-up.
